It is now well into January

… and I have not yet seen a single play to “critique” in the new year … but the season is about to swing into action. I’m having withdrawal symptoms!!! The overall positive experience and privilege of regularly peering in on lifestyles, concepts, and viewpoints, other than my own … through “live” theatrical productions, and then being able to “spread the word” to you in my column, is one of the joys of my life. If you are not a “theatergoer” already, I do hope you will give it a try this year. Of course not all productions are as worthy as others … but supporting the magical feast of talent available to us in Los Angeles can be most rewarding! I have eight upcoming plays scheduled in the near future to see and tell you all about … so do keep tuning in….

Mark Your Calendars : Two enticing shows both opening Feb. 2.

A Los Angeles Premiere presented by Interact Theatre Group. Written by Richard Broadhurst, and directed by Anita Khanzadian, this promises to be a “slice of life” gem. Taking place on a park bench in Central Park … a disgruntled senior gent ponders the choices he has left, to make his life count. He finds his favorite bench occupied by a disruptive stranger, who interferes with his contemplation. Starring two fine actors, Eddie Jones and John Towey, and featuring Kelly Lohman and Matt Fowler … I expect this to be a thought provoking evening of theater. For early booking call (818) 765-8732. Opening at The Avery Schreiber Theatre in NoHo.

And the World Goes ‘Round

Written by the highly respected, multi-award winning team of Kander (music) and Ebb (lyrics), whose collaboration spans decades … this should be a musical treat! Intermingling humor, romance, and drama, featuring such beloved classics as “Cabaret,” “Maybe This Time,” “All That Jazz,” and others. A sparkling cast of five will surely take us on an uplifting journey. For early booking call (323) 960-4418. At the NoHo Arts Center.

Oops! In last week’s column, when mentioning Stepping Out, opening soon at Lonny Chapman Theatre – somehow its talented and much loved director’s name was misspelled. Apologies to STAN MAZIN!

Back next week with my reviews on “Menopause the Musical” and “Giving up is Hard to Do….” both of which are already getting a lot of “buzz!”
