The Toluca Lake Players now present their third offering, It Was a Dark & Stormy Night. Written and directed by Pat Allee and set in the 1940s, the play pays homage to past mystery radio programs and seeks to honor those who sacrificed so much during World War II.
Airing weekly on WCRP-Radio, “Mystery Theater” takes a wild turn when the stalwart cast finds that their scheduled script has suddenly been replaced. Why? Because the station manager has learned that their British sponsor will be in the studio audience. How better to impress him than by changing the venue to England?
Along with dazzling the owner of “Treacher’s Teas,” the cast must assume British accents while adjusting to an entirely new script. They must also deal with the loss of an essential crew member who suddenly becomes ill, to be replaced by a questionable substitute.
Return to radio and the 1940s and see more than one drama play out in … It Was a Dark & Stormy Night!
This show will be “broadcast” from Taber Hall at 4301 Cahuenga (corner of Cahuenga and Whipple Street) on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The play runs April 12—28.
