0

Jazz vocalist Dirk Etienne is back with his newest album High Standards.

Jazz vocalist Dirk Etienne will be performing selections from his album, High Standards, at the Vibrato Grill Jazz…etc in Bel Air, 2930 Beverly Glen Circle, on Sunday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. With his silky and soulful voice, Dirk, accompanied by the Dirk Etienne Jazz Ensemble, will feature familiar jazz standards in the style of Frank Sinatra or Harry Connick, Jr. Songs such as “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Summer Wind,” “All of Me,” and other jazz favorites are selected by Dirk because, “these songs tell a story and set a mood.”

Dirk has a long history as a lead vocalist. He began performing at age 5 and by 20 was singing in local clubs in Hollywood. At the age of 23, Dirk opened on a top national tour and performed for over one million fans. He has worked with Grammy-winning producer Robert Margouleff and multi-platinum producers Kenny Kerner and Michael Lloyd, among others. After touring the U.S. in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, Dirk married and settled in Carmel Valley, California, where he has continued to work as a producer and recording engineer while pursuing other business interests.

In 2007, Dirk’s passion for singing was reignited as he began conceptualizing High Standards. Dirk produced High Standards with Grammy nominated Dennis Murphy (Acoustic Alchemy, Maria Muldaur), who also plays the upright bass on the album. Mark LeVang whose music credits include Natalie Cole, Jennifer Hudson, B.B. King and Elton John, accompanies Dirk on the piano on the album and will be joining him at the Vibrato.

Summarized nicely by Stewart Coxhead from smoothjazz.com, “California-based vocalist Dirk Etienne has just released High Standards, his work utilizing impeccable standards. Lush arrangements of songs from the Great American Songbook, so familiar that their lyrics are almost part of our language such as ‘Fly Me to the Moon,’ ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ and ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’… just three of this twelve track trip down memory lane. Co-Produced by Dirk and Monterey’s legendary bass man Dennis Murphy with Mark LeVang on keys, this is the quintessential wind down album of the year.”
