Actors Kevin Dobson and Janet Wood met more than thirty years ago at the Group Rep Theatre. Dobson was so broke he slept on the floor of the theatre until, that is, he landed a job as a series regular on Kojak with Telly Savalas. Since then, Dobson has appeared in thirty-five movies, been a regular on four other series (including Knots Landing), and continues to do theater, including the National Tour of Twelve Angry Men directed by Scott Ellis.
Janet Wood has been a guest star on numerous series and films, a contract player on Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless, and perhaps best known as “The Tomato Lady” on The Wonder Years. An award-winning actress, she has done more than her share of theater and is currently developing projects as a TV and film producer.
Kevin and Janet ran into each other several months ago. At Janet’s urging, Kevin came back to GRT. Each had always wanted to do Love Letters, so they went to GRT Co-Artistic Directors Larry Eisenberg and Chris Winfield and proposed the project. The result: Kevin Dobson and Janet Wood will be performing the A.R. Gurney play as a fundraiser for the Group Rep.
Love Letters is about a fifty-year love affair carried on through letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. The play is directed by Chris Winfield, and produced by Richard Alan Woody.
