Sorry I’ve been “missing in action” recently, “theatrically speaking.” I had a successful but stressfully exhausting Halloween season at my shop, Hubba Hubba! I took a much needed few days off and went to Palm Springs! I rested, reflected, read two books cover to cover, saw friends for dinner, shopped, and donated a couple of hundreds of bucks to the blackjack tables at the local “spa casino!” It turned out that the desert was celebrating “gay pride” on the weekend, so I walked down to the whacky parade on Sunday…and had a blast! The crowd was so friendly and enthusiastic…and the event was totally outrageous! I swear… some of those guys in their “drag” costumes had Tina Turner legs…and the overall spirit was electric! With upscale thrift shops on every corner in Palm Springs and surrounding towns, I scored tons of great vintage items for my store! Come on by and check it out!

Hot Desert Tip

There’s this uniquely “hip” and colorful family, (a daughter, a son, and a mother…) who opened a “hodge podge” of a shop nine years ago in the sleepy, “off the beaten path,” town of Desert Hot Springs. (I wandered in soon after…) Selling vintage clothing, (mostly ‘70s and ‘80s) jewelry, accessories, artwork, and glassware…nearly a decade later they’ve expanded greatly in size and stock. Having now bought the big building, they’ve filled the second shop “wall to wall” with trippy “one-of-a-kind” retro furniture and unique pieces to give your home a cutting-edge “vibe.” One your next trip to the desert…take the time to stop by…and tell them I sent you! Just 15 minutes outside of Palm Springs…don’t be surprised if you run into L.A. friends or re-sale dealers while there…as many Angelenos are discovering them!
