The Santa Monica College Theatre Arts and Music Departments presents Plaid Tidings, featuring four deceased crooners who have been sent from heaven to earth on a holiday mission. Directed and choreographed by Perviz Sawoski, Plaid Tidings is nostalgic Christmas-warmth and humor rolled into one.

The 1964 Plaids is a group of distinct singers. Kelvin Chiang plays adorable Smudge, who spouts philosophic observation while seducing the audience with his deep bass voice. Alex Cooper portrays romantic Jinx, singing with an angelic voice. Sparky, depicted with panache by Doug Kiphut, is the comic wise guy, and Staffan Edenholm plays a dreamy matinee idol in his depiction of Frankie. They sing Rosemary Clooney-inspired songs and Christmas tunes, backing up Perry Como and appearing in their version of The Ed Sullivan Show. With six fine dancers, simple, elegant sets, and creative lighting – and accompanied by Music Director Gary Gray on piano and John Graves on bass – the audience is filled with the holiday’s emotional harmony.
