By Steve Peterson

Salome Jens in “…about ANNE.”

For two nights only, the Group Rep presents acclaimed actress Salome Jens in her award-winning solo show …about Anne, featuring the poetry of the legendary Anne Sexton, Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20, starting at 8 p.m., followed by a Talkback, at the Lonny Chapman Theatre in NoHo.

Sexton, an influential American poet known for her highly personal verse, won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1967. Her poetry drew on details of her private life, her relationships with her husband and children and her battle with depression. Her incisive metaphors, the unexpected rhythms of her verse, and her ability to grasp a range of meaning in precise words have secured Sexton’s reputation.

Jens has had a prestigious, award-winning career in theatre, including numerous productions on Broadway, National Tours, Off-Broadway and on many L.A stages. She received a DramaLogue Award, as well as the Bay Area Critics Circle Award for …about ANNE. One critic wrote, “Salome Jens lives brilliantly in the words and worlds Sexton created.”

Jens has also received the Chicago Critics Award, the Straw Hat Award, and the Clarence Derwent Award. In 2006, she won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award and Backstage West’s Garland Award for her performance in Leipzig.

Of her many TV, MOW and film appearances, she may be best remembered for her roles on Falcon Crest, Mary Hartman, and as The Founder in Star Trek – Deep Space Nine. Most recently, Jens guest starred on The Event.

Jens is an associate professor at UCLA in the Masters Theatre Program.
