I didn’t catch any theater productions on the weekend, but have two upcoming, highly anticipated “openings” on my calendar to see and review for you. Stayed busy buying a bunch of great vintage pieces to sell in my store, “Hubba Hubba!” (1930s thru ‘60s). If you’ve never wandered into my “eclectic alcove” of clothing and costume jewelry from days gone by … you should check it out! I’ve been open for 30 years, and was the only shop of its kind in Burbank, when I started up. By now there are over a dozen other little “gems” to shop in for vintage treasures, along Magnolia’s trendy strip. The Magnolia Park area is booming!
While in the area plan to have lunch at the charming newly opened Romancing the Bean, nestled amidst the shops. It is a classy, cozy, culinary delight!
Do plan a fun shopping day, and visit all of us! It’s a walk down memory lane!
Divorce Party the Musical – Opening March 3 at The El Portal Theatre.
Billed as the ultimate “girls night out” evening, this comedic yet relatable show promises to be a ton of fun! Centering on Linda, newly divorced and still reeling from the experience … her friends throw her an empowering divorce party. With clever new lyrics, familiar hit songs will be performed, as the universal subjects of divorce, long-term relationships, and moving forward, will be explored. I think this one is going to be a hoot … ala La Femme! For early booking call (866) 811-4111 or go to elportal.theatre.com.
Dreamgirls – Opening March 8 at The Met Theatre
(postponed one week later than originally scheduled).
Directed by Marco Gomez, and boasting an exciting cast of 30 … Doma Theatre Company opens their second season of mega musicals with this smash hit! I caught every one of their first seasons’ musical productions, and look forward to being a part of their vision again this year. A huge Broadway hit, and later an award winning film, starring Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls is loaded with R&B soul hits from the 1960s … and this troupe has some “fab” singers! An inside look at Motown’s climb to universal fame, played out by a great cast in spectacular costumes … this is sure to be an inspiring and powerful production! Already selling out seats for the run … do try to book your seats early! Call (323) 802-4990 or go to domatheatre.com.
Other than that … I watched the Lakers win on Sunday morning, nursed a nagging cold in my PJ’s, and went to an intimate Oscar viewing party at my dear friend Stan’s home, watching on a 65” flat screen TV. Amazing… it was almost like “being there!” Just another weekend in the life of P.T. More “chat” next week!
