Join the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life as they host a 3 mile run, 15-obstacle fitness challenge in LA Historic State Park. The event raises funds for research, education, and free patient service programs in LA including transportation to treatment-related appointments, wigs, lodging, summer day camp, college scholarships, information, and support programs.

Dance in the USA
Pacific Ballet Dance Theatre creates a new production that pays tribute to American music and dance styles ranging from the 1800s to present day, an original ballet evolved from the country’s multi-ethnic population through a diverse array of styles, such as country, rhythm and blues, jazz, rock ’n’ roll, and pop. It will close with selections from Michael Jackson. The program will include recorded and live music.

Cardboard Box City 2012
TheFourthAnnualCardboardBoxCity, benefiting Family Promise of East San Fernando Valley, shines a spotlight on the plight of homeless families in our community while giving participants an opportunity to see what it’s like to spend the night without a roof over their heads.
Prospective residents pay a minimum of $15 per person ($10 per person for groups of 10+) to sleep overnight atCardboardBoxCityincluding dinner and a movie. In addition, participants are encouraged to get pledges from their friends, family, and co-workers much like a walk-a-thon. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative dwelling and most money raised by an individual. The top fundraiser will be named Mayor of Box City and receive the Key to the City.
CardboardBoxCityis open to all ages and affiliations. Service organizations, school service clubs, and youth groups are encouraged to use this event as a community service and service-learning project. The activities and entertainment will be geared for families, and participants will sleep outdoors in a secure area. A minimum of one adult for five youth under the age of 18 is required. Bring your own cardboard box home or a pop-up tent (no stakes). There will be a carnival (extra charge), activities, entertainment, and food for participants.

Audition for Soloists and Ensemble Singers
Auditions for soloists and ensemble singers are being held for the upcoming season of the San Fernando Valley Master Chorale. The Chorale rehearses on Monday nights in Woodland Hills and performs at various venues. The season includes The Music Man concert in October, and the Chorale is seeking male and female leads for this presentation; Respighi’s Laud to the Nativity in December, the group’s delightful Cabaret; and preparation for aWashingtonD.C. tour in the spring. Auditionees are asked to bring two contrasting songs and a pianist will be provided.

Ray Bradbury Tribute
CART will be airing Ray Bradbury’s 75th Birthday Tribute. The program was produced by the California Artists Radio Theatre for The Thousand Oaks Library Foundation on Aug. 22, 1995, featuring a speech by Mr. Bradbury on that occasion.
NASA’S Curiosity landed on Mars this past Sunday, Aug. 5, in the birthday month of Ray Bradbury. It seems like the great storyteller of The Martian Chronicles is right on schedule, telling a story of which he was well aware!
