Dodgers to Honor Military Throughout Homestand

The Dodgers return to Los Angeles on Monday to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks (Aug. 31 – Sept. 3) and San Diego Padres (Sept. 4-6).
The team will honor members of the Military next week during Military Appreciation Week, and the Navy, Air Force, Army, and Marines will each have a night dedicated to them. The week concludes with Military Appreciation Night – Friday Night Fireworks presented by Farmer John.
On Saturday, September 5, the Dodgers will host their 12th annual “Viva Los Dodgers” celebration, sponsored by Coca-Cola, Hyundai, and Time Warner Cable, from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. in Lot 1. The festival will include live music from Ranchera singer Paquita La Del Barrio, Latin pop singer-songwriter Luz Ríos, and Mariachi Juvenil Mi Mexico de Francisco Rubio, as well as a special performance by Mexico City-based Latin electronica artist Moenia presented by Time Warner Cable. Special guests throughout the homestand include actress and TV personality Audrina Patridge on Monday, August 31 and Blake Griffin of the Clippers and Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy on Wednesday, September 2.

Fire Updates

The Station Fire started off of Angeles Crest Highway (SR 2) about one mile above Angeles Crest Fire Station around 3:30pm, Wednesday, August 26, 2009. Los Angeles County Fire reports that this fire has burned 35,200 acres and is 5 percent contained as of 7:00am, Sunday, August 30, 2009. Approximately 10,000 homes are threatened at this time (500 commercial structures and 2000 out buildings as well). Over 1,800 personnel are working the fire. Three homes have been destroyed. The fire has been very active.

Let Metro give you a “Passport to a Grecian Holiday” September 11-13 at the 11th Annual L.A. Greek Fest at the Grand Plaza grounds of Saint Sofia Cathedral. Hosted by celebrities Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, you and your family won’t even have to leave town for an exotic getaway. This year’s fest will feature food booths serving Greek cuisine, travel-themed raffle prizes, the TUNICS sports bar, and live music and dancing. Tours of Saint Sofia Cathedral will also be occurring throughout the weekend.

The Fest runs 5p.m. to 11p.m. on Friday Sept. 11th, 1p.m. to 11p.m. on Saturday Sept. 12th, and noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 13th.
