Councilmember Tom LaBonge thanked officials from auto giant BMW for donating $25,000 to Wilshire Crest School on Thursday. The company will also match up to $5,000 in private donations to the school each year for the next five years, for a total commitment of $50,000.
Wilshire Crest is building a school garden through a $10,000 Community Beautification Grant from the City’s Board of Public Works.
Two other CD4 schools – Vine Street and Oxnard Street elementary schools also received grants through this program for landscaping and gardens on their campuses.
Two other Council District 4 schools received big book donations this week. City National Bank and Barnes & Noble teamed up to donate 4,000 new books to four LAUSD elementary schools, two of which are in this district. Over the holidays, Barnes & Noble at the Grove held a book drive that netted 2,000 book donations from customers. City National matched that number, and began distributing the new children’s books at Hancock Park Elementary School on Thursday. Third Street School also received 1,000 new books.
