A Twist of Fate Saves Face
By Greg Smith, Staff Writer
Momentous changes in one’s life often come from seemingly trivial events. During medical school, Dr. Stephen McNeese developed an intense interest in plastic surgery. After completion of medical training at Baylor College of Medicine, he completed a general surgery residency at L.A. County – USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. He enjoyed his training at L.A. County to such an extent that he planned to devote his practice to general surgery. This was true until one fateful afternoon.
Walking down the main hall at L.A. County, he and a senior resident were having a casual conversation. The senior resident, who was already enrolled in a plastic surgery fellowship the next year, had just been offered the prestigious position of Resident Supervisor. The senior resident was unsure of which position to take. By the end of the conversation, no more than 3-4 minutes, the senior resident had decided to accept the Resident Supervisor position and Dr. McNeese had rekindled his interest in plastic surgery. He entered the plastic surgery training program at Baylor, completing his residency in 1982.
The rest, as they say, is history. His office is located across from St. Joseph Medical Center in the Burbank Media District. He has been selected as the Number One Plastic Surgeon in Burbank for nine of the last eleven years. He has been honored and “humbled” by his selection as one of America’s Top Surgeons for the past three years, one of America’s Top Plastic Surgeons for the past two years and selected as one of Southern California’s “Super Doctors” (top 5% of all physicians in Southern California) for the past three years.
Dr. McNeese offers a full menu of plastic surgery procedures including facial and body enhancements. His office is an accredited surgery center, which means it has all the monitoring and safety capabilities of the hospitals (“all the paperwork headaches, too,” he jokingly adds). Listing the variety of services provided at his Burbank office, even Dr. McNeese was surprised at the number and variety of choices available.
In addition to surgical procedures, Dr. McNeese offers a number of injectable filler materials such as Restylane, Juvederm and Perlane to smooth skin lines and folds, Botox and Dysport to smooth the skin surface by relaxing facial muscles, and Radiesse to restore lost volume due to ageing of the facial features. One product that he is very excited about is Sculptra. This injectable product actually “stimulates” your body to produce its own new tissue! Producing new tissue is a process that takes time, so the results aren’t immediate, but the results last much longer because the newly generated tissue becomes subject to your aging pattern. It is truly a method of restoring natural youthful fullness of the facial features without scars or surgery.
Also available is a variety of lasers for hair removal, skin smoothing and non-invasive fat reduction. Dr. McNeese has a line of cosmeceutical skin care products of which he and his staff are very proud. The efficacy of these products is very slightly below prescription controlled products. Permanent make-up is available to accentuate eye lids, eye brows and lips to make the process of applying daily make-up less burdensome. By the way, he also has an excellent mineral based make-up developed for high definition television. Want to get rid of those unsightly varicose veins? Dr. McNeese has Asclera injections to eliminate them.
His office offers the hCG (Human Choriogonadotropin) diet. “There’s no secret to weight loss,” Dr. McNeese says. “You must burn more calories than you eat.” What can be done to make the diet process less difficult? hCG is helpful in three ways. Firstly, it selectively mobilizes “stored fat,” thereby giving you back your desired contours more quickly. Secondly, hCG preserves muscle mass more efficiently than simple diet and exercise, thereby maintaining your basal metabolic rate to a greater degree. And, lastly, by adjusting the hCG dosage, hunger pangs and craving for food can essentially be eliminated.
Dr. McNeese says that “people begin to think seriously about plastic surgery when they feel that their appearance no longer reflects their inner vitality. Plastic surgery is a happy specialty. Helping people achieve their goals provides tremendous satisfaction — for both patient and doctor.”
On Thursday, August 18, Dr. McNeese is having an open house. Please join him and meet his staff. Reservations are required.
