The Stars of Beatlemania Take You on a Magical Mystery Tour at NoHo’s El Portal Theatre, June 29 to July 1
As part of a wonderful lineup of shows this summer at NoHo’s historic El Portal Theatre, The Stars of Beatlemania is the smash show about the Fab Four that features the same performers who starred on Broadway in Beatlemania.
Even if you couldn’t celebrate with Paul McCartney on his 70th birthday last week, you can now plan on celebrating with all of the Beatles as they take you on a Magical Mystery Tour of the band’s remarkable career. The show journeys from their U.S. debut on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, through the end of an era in 1969 with the Abbey Road album.
The nostalgic musical is certainly a must-see for Beatles fans, who can take heart that the performers give the audience an authentic experience. To accurately recreate the sights and sounds of the Liverpool Lads, the band members play the original Gretsch, Rickenbacker, and Hofner guitars through the same model Vox amplifiers the Beatles used. It’s so believable when they start rocking the early Beatles songs such as “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “She Loves You,” “A Hard Day’s Night,” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
Of course the Beatles music evolved, and the band will take a trip into the psychedelic era with songs from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The band will appear on stage wearing exact replicas of the Sgt. Pepper’s costumes. During the band’s final phase, everyone is dressed to recreate the famous Abbey Road album cover, and singing the classics “Let It Be,” “Hey Jude,” “Something,” “Get Back,” and “Revolution.”
A lot can be done with costumes and instruments, but it’s the stars of the show that really bring the experience to life. David Leon, as John Lennon, has starred in the Broadway and motion picture productions of Beatlemania. Alan LeBoeuf, as Paul McCartney, spent two years on Broadway with the show, and is part of the hit-making country act Bailey and the Boys. David Brighton, as George Harrison, played lead guitar for the rock group Quiet Riot. And Carroll “Beaver” Parker, as Ringo Starr, has had an impressive career recording with stars such as Peabo Bryson and Nigel Olsson, plus playing in concert with Herman’s Hermits.
All the Beatlemania stars offer strong vocals and an incredible resemblance to the originals. But the hallmark of their performance is recreating the spirit of the Fab Four’s personalities.
Let’s face it, it’s really cool to go back in time and see the Beatles together again. And The Stars of Beatlemania make that trip possible, and it’s a short trip to NoHo’s El Portal Theatre to catch the show running June 29 to July
