Interest in Maranatha High School continues to soar at this college preparatory Christian high school, located on a picturesque campus in Pasadena. Founded 45 years ago, Maranatha serves 665 students, and offers an academic curriculum for young men and women who are committed to the challenges of a college preparatory program. Maranatha students are encouraged to live lives of purpose and distinction, as reflected by character, competence and community, and to develop a personal relationship with God.
The school has a state-of-the-art athletic field, a natatorium and collegiate basketball courts and offers an athletic program with 18 teams in 14 sports. This past spring, Maranatha’s Boys’ Varsity Baseball Team won CIF, as did the Girls’ Varsity Swim Team.
Maranatha recognizes the need for students to develop as whole persons, and offers opportunities to participate in missions, community service and leadership training. The school encourages the interpersonal growth of its students through Associated Student Body activities, clubs and other social alternatives that nurture interpersonal skills.
There are 22 student clubs and organizations, 25 AP and honors courses and weekly chapels. This school year, Maranatha is launching a Pillars of Wisdom program that encourages its students to focus on the following character attributes: humility, integrity, stewardship, discipline, courage, passion and perseverance.
Drama students also have the opportunity to perform in the world-renowned Ambassador Auditorium, located adjacent to Maranatha’s campus. On November 19-21, a much-anticipated production of Fiddler on the Roof will be performed.
Beginning freshman year, Maranatha works with each student to create a personal four-year academic plan in preparation for four-year colleges and universities. This four-year plan gives students and families a road map of which courses will make them eligible, competitive or highly competitive for various categories of colleges and universities. Each year, this four-year plan is revisited with students and families to ensure adequate preparation.
Virtually all of Maranatha’s students continue on to a wide variety of four-year colleges, including Johns Hopkins, Duke University, Westmont, USC, Seattle Pacific, Wheaton, NYU, Pitzer, Harvey Mudd, Point Loma, West Point, Baylor, and all of the universities in the UC system. Students also enter art and design schools, including the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
Maranatha is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Maranatha provides an education that encourages students to think critically within a community that seeks to shape both their hearts and minds. Maranatha recognizes the need for students to develop as whole persons, and offers opportunities to participate in athletics, performing arts, missions, community service and leadership training. Tuition assistance is available to qualifying families.
