Meredith Thomas spent her early childhood in the northernmost city in the US, Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow), Alaska. This small city is literally north of the Arctic Circle. Despite her frosty start in life, she still loves snow and the holidays. Good thing because in her latest project is a holiday film, A Christmas in Royal Fashion, airing Sunday, December 16;Saturday, December 22; and Monday, December 24, on ION Television. She plays Melanie, an event manager described as a tyrant, while aiding a royal family in raising money for the less fortunate.
In real life, Thomas is never on casting director’s naughty list and is considered the go-to choice for Lifetime and ION movies alike. Her previous films, A Christmas in Vermont (with Chevy Chase) and The Ugly Christmas Sweater, will re-air on ION TV and Lifetime Movie Club this month. “They’re not super complicated; you can just enjoy them and go on the ride,” Thomas says of why we enjoy holiday movies. “People are looking for a reason to feel good.”
The “complete package,” Thomas’ acting range expands well beyond holiday movies. Other starring roles include The Wrong Crush and Fiancé Killer for Lifetime. FX’s Feud: Bette & Joan, roles with Nickelodeon, TBS, the big screen and live theatre, for which Thomas received a Broadway World Award nomination and two Scenie Awards.
She also placed fourth in LA’s Funniest Comic in the City Competition doing stand-up, but what really keeps her on the nice list is her philanthropic work with the Van Nuys/Reseda Elks Lodge. Thomas recently organized an event honoring veterans and first responders and is helping other actors get recognized by creating FYC Independents – screening independent television projects for Television Academy members. The event helped lead to four separate 2018 Primetime Emmy® nominations.
“I’m in a project headed to Sundance. I’ve also been producing, and I intend to have another web series out for FYC in 2019,” the busy Thomas says.
