Bob and Dolores Hope’s former estate on Moorpark St. and Ledge Ave. has finally found a buyer. After nearly six years on the market, the 5.2-acre property now belongs to supermarket magnate Ron Burkle, who paid $15 million.
Originally listed in 2013 for $27.5 million, the property was the subject of an effort last year by L.A. City Councilmember David Ryu for historical monument status. The Hopes’ daughter Linda Hope objected, and designation was denied after Ryu’s motion failed to get the necessary council votes to pass. Craig Strong, Pacific Union International, had the listing.
The main residence was built in 1939 and the property includes indoor and outdoor pools, formal gardens, a guest house, a three-hole golf course and putting green. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, in keeping with Dolores Hope’s will.
Two years ago, Burkle purchased the Hopes’ John Lautner-designed Palm Springs house for $13 million.
