Since 2014, “An Evening Among the Roses” has gained a reputation across Los Angeles as a fun and elegant garden party that allows The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens to thank the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members of the community for their contributions to the institution.

Arriving at the Rose Garden at the Huntington Gardens on June 8, we were greeted by the staff and welcomed to the annual event. This year’s theme was “Alice in Wonderland.” We were shuttled to the garden where we were directed to get our welcoming boutonnière. We were then pinned with a lovely arrangement of flowers matching our outfits. We then proceeded to grab a delicious rum punch at one of several open bars, along with some hors d’oeuvres and desserts. The crowd had a very upbeat vibe, and we ran into some old friends that we had met at previous parties.

The guests were dressed in fun “Wonderland” costumes including some wild creations that put smiles on everyone’s faces.

Music was provided by DJ Matthew Rubino of Project Slate and he had something for everyone, a mix of old and new tunes that stirred up memories from days gone by. There was dancing under the stars and the weather was perfect for this fun evening which I am sure everyone enjoyed.

Hope to see you all here next year!
