The chef presents a daily list of specials in addition to the regular menu. On a recent Friday eve the soup was (naturally) New England Clam Chowder with potatoes, celery, and fresh herbs for $3.50 per cup, $6.50 per bowl. The suggested appetizer was a combo of shrimp and scallops sautéed with mushrooms, onions, asparagus, all baked in “dynamite” sauce. That dish went for $9.95.
Special entrees were a broiled Pork Chop with pear and cranberry sauce, $17.95, five-pepper crusted Prime Rib Eye Steak, $22.95, and butter-poached Sockeye Salmon, $19.95. That’s just the beginning of gourmet selections on a typical evening at Jax where dinner is served ‘til one in the ayem. Portions are generous and the presentation is commanding.
