The Curious Palate

Hi there. I am not retired, deceased, or bored with turning out a dining column. I am on the outer edge of a series of painful and time consuming physical problems that began with a broken hip and proceeded through the alphabet of complications. I’m nearly recovered courtesy of some skillful medics and especially the untiring concern of my closest cousin and loyal companion. For a time I could neither swallow nor speak and I’m learning to walk safely if not swiftly.

Having no solid food for a month I became a mere shadow of my fit self. When I was allowed a bit of institutional nutrition it lived down to its well earned reputation. My first outing for solid food took me to a long time Glendalefavorite, Conrad’s Family Restaurant, where the menu is endless, the portions are generous, and the prices are right for breakfast (anytime), lunch or dinner. They even have a full cocktail, beer, and wine bar at820 N. Central Ave. The fresh poached salmon is served with mashed potatoes and gobs of hot gravy.

The décor at Conrad’s is chic and inviting, the premises are smartly maintained, and the service is prompt and caring. For good measure the free-standing place has lots of self-parking.

There’s also a Conrad’s at 861 E. Walnut inPasadena, but it lacks the panache of theGlendalelocation.

It’s good to be back in circulation!
