Over the past decade Melissa Bacelar has worked tirelessly to change the lives of countless stray dogs – at times having up to twenty two dogs in her home! When Melissa first began to rescue dogs in her community, she realized that something needed to happen to change the stigma of rescue centers. All too often, the idea and process of rescuing a dog becomes a “disturbing and upsetting experience for prospective dog owners – so they tend to avoid it all together.” All that is changing though, thanks to Wylder’s Holistic Pet Center and Rescue which opened on February 8th of this year.
Early Sunday morning I walked into the store in Studio City to see Melissa bottle feeding the smallest puppy I’d ever seen, just as seven other dogs bounced in with a co-worker for that day’s adoptions; soon followed by a couple of families looking to give a dog a forever home. Amidst all this chaos Melissa met my dog and immediately recommended a new food for his sensitive stomach (and incredibly fussy nature) and then proceeded to help me fit him for a new harness – oh, while at the same time telling an interested little girl about the puppy that she was holding. This lady is really quite marvelous, and her store no less impressive. Melissa is wonderfully knowledgeable about pet care, herbal supplements and thoroughly researches all of her products to make sure that they are healthy, organic, non GMO and where possible made from recycled materials. If you are looking to rescue a happy and healthy furry new friend, or a one stop shop for all of your dog’s needs, look no further than Wylder’s Holistic Pet Center and Rescue, located at 11948 Ventura Blvd. Studio City, CA 91604.
