Tom LaBonge, our very active and dedicated City Councilman —who’s involved in so many projects in the works — shared his city pride with an enthusiastic crowd that saw a project come to fruition on February 23 in the heart of Toluca Lake. Because of the increase in traffic along Riverside Drive, many residents realized that a new traffic light was needed at the intersection of Talofa Avenue and Riverside Drive. Most of us didn’t realize all that this entailed — from permits to excavation, surveyors, engineers, stacks of paperwork and much more — but it finally all came to fruition when the new traffic signals were lit. Sharing in this moment were representatives of the City and County Departments, as well as our local Chamber of Commerce, Police Department and more. Firemen even showed up in one of their fire trucks! Many of the nearby businesses were represented, along with local residents. Tom LaBonge introduced many of the people involved in making this happen — who shared in expressing their congratulations — and finally the moment arrived to turn on the switch! The honor went to Florence Bogy, a member of the Toluca Lake Chamber of Commerce and mother of Civic Leader Richard Bogy. Suddenly, the signals began to flash, and the traffic moved by smoothly. The local Sharky’s restaurant provided delicious “light” lunch fare as everyone discussed this unusual celebration.
Many thanks to Tom LaBonge and those involved — we can now really say to you, “You light up my life!”
