Helen Reddy Will Take Center Stage for Two Rare Los Angeles Performances


Helen Reddy was the first Aus-tralian to win a Grammy Award. Proceeds from her concerts will benefit music school funding.

Best known as a recording artist, Helen Reddy claims more than a dozen Top 40 hits. In theater, she starred inLondon’s West End and on Broadway inNew York. As a concert artist, she has playedNew York’s Carnegie Hall andLincolnCenter, as well as the Royal Albert Hall and the Palladium inLondon. The lyrics she penned for her feminist anthem “I Am Woman” are now included in American History high school textbooks. On July 13 and 14, Helen will sing atSt.GenevieveHigh SchoolinPanoramaCity, her first live performance in 10 years.

St. Genevieve is the first high school inCaliforniaand the first Catholic school in the nation to receive the prestigious National School of Character Award presented by the Character Education Partnership inWashingtonD.C.At the invitation of students Helen lectured at the school in Feb. 2010. Her topic: “Personal Responsibilities of Men and Women in 21st Century Society.” Helen fell in love with the school during her visit. She now returns and this time she will sing to help bring additional funding to the arts program.

St. Genevieve has a diverse student body with 620 students. More than 60 percent of St. Genevieve’s students require financial aid in order to attend the school. “Helen’s life is now devoted to making the world a better place, so she happily accepted our invitation to perform here,” Principal Dan Horn said. “Helen’s lifestyle is the embodiment of our school’s mission statement: To Know God, To Live with Honor, and To Change the World.
