Well folks, I spent a glorious Mother’s Day weekend with my own mother and it included a trip to our favorite local venue Valley Performing Arts Center to see the incomparable Lily Tomlin in concert. It has been a privilege to have worked with Lily, but nothing compares to the magic of seeing her “Live.” She was in rare form and delighted a packed house that included our friends actor Fred Willard and director Paul Weitz (Little Fockers, Admission.)
Lily is an inspiration for my own upcoming solo show, and with “An Evening of Classic Lily Tomlin” she took the audience on a theatrical, comedic multi-media journey that included her beloved characters Ernestine, Edith Ann, of course, along with Trudy, Chrissy, and Lud & Marie all from “The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe” and a personal favorite of mine, Madame Lupe, the world’s oldest living beauty expert.
Tomlin is a National Treasure, and has played numerous mothers lately, including Lisa Kudrow’s narcissistic mom Putsy Hodge on Showtime’s Web Therapy. I gave Lily flowers in honor of my own mother who adored the show. It was a splendid way to celebrate Mother’s Day.
