San Fernando Valley Master Chorale Provides Passion at Pierce
The San Fernando Valley Master Chorale has been in existence since 1999. The organization performs choral masterworks, opera, jazz and musical theater. This past weekend they performed Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Passion of Our Lord According to St. Matthew at the Theater on The Hill at Pierce College.
The superb rendition included the talents of the Philharmonic Choir, Chorale and Premiere Orchestra plus that of the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society Chorus, which has been on the map for nearly half a century.
With the presence of Easter, this piece was well-timed and engaged a diverse audience. Terry Danne is the artistic director of the local talent and the Nevada group was directed by Douglas Peterson.
The production featured Daniel Plaster as The Evangelist and Rick Schaffner in the role of Jesus and was also spiced by a number of solo pieces and duets as well as the Chorale as a whole. The orchestra accompaniment was uplifting and inspiring.
The production was only a one-nighter; however, you will not have to wait long to see another.
Next up is Mass in G Minor by Vaughan Williams on Saturday, May 28, at 8 p.m. also at the same venue: Pierce College’s Theater on the Hill located at 6201 Winnetka Ave. in Woodland Hills. Tickets for adults are $20 and students are $10 with a Pierce ID. For ticket information, call (818) 753-3306, (800) 838-3006 or visit www.brownpapertickets.com.
This show features the San Fernando Valley Master Chorale and Première Chamber Chorale with Terry Danne as the Conductor and Dr. Donald Caldwell as the Assistant Conductor.
