Sizzling three-digit temps did not stop celebrities from visiting the Japanese garden at Gonpachi of Beverly Hills for a primetime Emmy charity event, Room to Read.
The guest list included a doctor, a bachelorette, a dancer, a mad man, a housewife, a soaper, a partridge (but not a pear tree). It included The Bachelorette’s Ali Fedotowsky and fiancé Roberto Martinez, Mad Men’s Bryan Bratt, Eric Roberts, and many others.
Sponsored by Dr. Garth Fisher’s CellCeuticals Biomedical Skin Treatments, the celebrities were like kids in a candy store. As their entrance fee, celebrities donated an autographed copy of their favorite book, which would later be auctioned. Doris Bergman and Kathy Duliakas produced the event.
Newlywed Eva La Rue brought husband Joe Cappuccino and sister Niki. The actress glowed as she dished about her June Mexican wedding, which included 50 of her closest family and friends.
“We invited the people who were closest to us – family and childhood friends,” said the CSI Miami star. “We took salsa lessons for a month and a half before. The Gypsy Kings per-formed.”
The day could not have been more perfect, but there was a tiny mishap.
“Omar (Miller) from the show couldn’t find the wedding,” she said. “We sent out invitations that didn’t have the address because we didn’t want it to get out. Everybody knew where it was going to be (the Tides Zi-huatanego). Omar called me while I was in Mexico, but none of our phones worked down there.”
For most, a romantic Mexican resort would work as a terrific honeymoon. Not for this globe-trotting couple; this was just an appetizer. The lovebirds flew to Morocco, where they spent two weeks touring in Marrakech, Fes, and Ouarzazate (where Gladiator was shot).
“It’s amazing; it’s an entire city made out of mud and straw from 300 years ago,” she said.
A junior high school pal intro-duced her to her husband.
”(My friend’s) husband is his maritime lawyer; (my husband) owns a fishing company,” she’ says, modestly. Her husband actually owns a seafood export company. “Otherwise I don’t think we would have ever met.”
She has married actors in the past, including John O’Hurley and John Callahan, both castmates from “All My Children.” She and Callahan have a daughter to-gether.
A romantic, Joe proposed in both Africa and Bora Bora. The first engagement did not stick, but, fortunately, the second worked out.
Eva has thought about addi-tions to her family.
“But, I doubt it (will happen),” she said. “I’m 43 now. I’ve got an eight year old (Kaya). He’s got a 19 and a 22 year old (Cassie and Kevin).”
Her younger sister, Nika, who accompanied the couple, assists and travels with Eva while studying for her Master’s for her teaching credential.
After a morning shoot at Wisteria Lane, Desperate Housewive’s Felicity Hoffman stopped into the event and tried on “Twisted Silver” jewelry. Shirley Jones relived her teenage years while checking out Posh Life Bling (cell phone holders) for herself and her daughter.
“Look at these Swarvorski crystals, so darling,” Jones said.
Handsome Antonio Sabato, Jr. must have a special lady, as he was eyeing some gorgeous Men-bur purses from Granada, Spain.
Celebrities were also gifted with a giant, black bag to fill with presents from Coleman Odyssey luggage, Hipzbags (for cell phones), AK AnneKlein, Armitron and Sprout Watches.
