Hamburgers to Replace Hot Dogs at the Site of Papoo’s Hot Dog Show?
By Jon Konjoyan
A new eatery, described as a “hamburger restaurant” by a construction worker at the site, is currently being readied at the location of the old Papoo’s Hot Dog Show at 4300 W. Riverside Dr. at Rose St.
Papoo’s closed in 2011 after 60 years in operation. Grubstreet.com reports that Umami Burger will be taking over the famous location, keeping “much of the building’s carnival-worthy, vintage exterior and reinventing the menu of seven hot dogs with its own signature touches.” The new cafe is set to open next month.
Meanwhile Luca’s has opened in the spot formerly known as Chez Nous at 10550 Riverside Dr. near Cahuenga Blvd. The cuisine is described as “American” with seafood being a specialty. Chez Nous closed last year after 30 years in business.
Finally, the ongoing street closure at Ledge Ave. and Riverside Dr. is due to freeway sound barrier construction, according to local residents. The closure is set to remain in place until later next month.
