Jazz in Schools
I recently attended an event at the Toluca Lake Elementary School featuring a program of some members of The Los Angeles Jazz Society. It’s a wonderful group of well-known jazz artists and musicians that was founded in 1985. Their mission is to educate and raise awareness of the effect of vibrant rhythms and the sounds of jazz music. It was wonderful to watch these young students be fascinated and spellbound by the program presented to them. They learned different styles of playing each instrument and received an education about how they are made, along with the inspiration to want to learn to play any one of them. That’s the goal of the Jazz Society: to promote, inspire and nurture the emerging jazz musicians of tomorrow. What a great program!
