National Night Out Against Crime

On Aug. 6, Toluca Lake took a strong step toward supporting local law-enforcement and sending a message that the village is organized and fighting back against crime.
From 5:30 to 8:30 the Greater Toluca Lake Neighborhood Council, in conjunction with the Toluca Lake Homeowners Association, the Toluca Lake Chamber of Commerce, the offices of Councilman Tom LaBonge and Assemblyman Adrin Nazarian, the Toluca Lake Garden Club, and the LAPD and Los Angeles Fire Department, presented the local version of National Night Out Against Crime which celebrated its 30th Anniversary. Chase Bank provided space in their parking lot for the event.
According to Peter Hartz, President of the Toluca Lake Homeowners Association, the idea of bringing together many community organizations dedicated to the safety and well-being of the village is one of solidarity. “By joining together we can guarantee enhanced security for Toluca Lake.”
Tammy Tarner, membership Chair of the Chamber of Commerce, agreed. “The Chamber is sponsoring National Night Out to acknowledge our law enforcement and to bring the community out for the night.”
She said about 250 people attended and enjoyed the music of Johnny Blu, refreshments such as frozen Italian Ice, hot dogs provided by Paty’s restaurant and a coffee truck sponsored by Strong Realtor, pet treats provided by A La Mutt, and free child ID kits from TLHOA.
According to Hartz, TLHOA has entered into an understanding with ACS Security for a promotional 90-day pilot program to patrol Toluca Lake 24 hours a day with a uniformed and armed guard. To provide continued service by ACS, homeowners are asked to pay a monthly fee of $40.
