New Horizons is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to fulfill their dreams.

Founded in 1954 by a handful of parents whose children were diagnosed with special needs, New Horizons is a non-profit serving more than 1,000 individuals annually in the San Fernando Valley to help them lead independent, fulfilled and productive lives.

This June in celebration of its 60th Anniversary, plans have been made for some very exciting and fun events:

On June 7 they will hold their 7th Annual 5K Run/Walk on the Horizons at Hansen Dam in Lake View Terrace.

Grand Marshal for the event will be Actress Lauren Potter who plays Becky Jackson on the hit FOX TV series Glee. She’ll be joined by Australian pop singing sensation Cody Simpson who was recently seen on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and actor Brant Daugherty from ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars.

On June 21 look forward to New Horizons’ first-ever benefit concert at the beautiful Los Angeles Ford Amphitheatre, featuring legendary singer and songwriter Johnny Rivers (“Secret Agent Man,” “Memphis,” and “Baby I Need Your Lovin’”) along with special guest singer/songwriter Jimmy Webb.

K-EARTH 101 Morning Show host Gary Bryan will emcee and LA City Councilmember Mitchell Englander will receive an award.

As the agency continues to support the dreams of its clients through supported employment, living, and workshop programs, it looks forward to an exciting month in a year filled with celebrations.
