The Little Dog Laughed Strips It All down at the Secret Rose
A handsome film star who is in the closet — Michael. His fling with a male prostitute — Alex. The fling becomes a thing — oh dear. The male prostitute has a girlfriend — Ellen. Ellen has a secret. The actor’s agent who sees love as just another means for stealing focus — Diane. The possibility of a major role. The role of a lifetime. What price for success? What can the acerbic Diane do to make it all happen? You might be surprised.
Douglas Carter Beane’s The Little Dog Laughed stars an energetic cast of Bernadette Birkett, Trip Langley, Owen Martin, and Laine Jennings under the direction of Jon Cortez. The show is staged with a nicely contemporary look and sleek set in a modern day story thanks to design team Carlo Maghirang, Jose Raul Guzman, Josh Holt, Roxy Ramirez, and Rob Siegel.
The Little Dog Laughed was nominated for a Tony in 2007 for Best New Play, and also received nominations for a GLAAD Media Award and Lucille Lortel Awards. So the production bears a proud pedigree and in fact did claim a Tony Award for Best Actress for Julie White as the agent. Bernadette Birkett gives the role its due as well in this production.
