Beckett Shines

The Dodgers (27-24) capped their nine-game road trip in style as Josh Beckett tossed his first-ever no-hitter in a 6-0 win over Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park last Sunday.

Beckett (3-1) became the 24th Dodgers hurler and 11th since the club moved West in 1958, to throw a no-hitter.

“It was awesome. You think about it pretty much from the fourth [inning] on,’’ said Beckett, who struck out six and walked three. “I’m not one of those guys that carried a lot of no-hitters deep into games.’’

Adrian Gonzalez had three hits and drove in two runs, Justin Turner slapped two hits including a homer and scored two runs, while Yasiel Puig (two hits) scored a run.

Ben Revere (four hits) delivered a run batted in and tallied three runs in Saturday’s 5-3 victory for the Phillies, Chase Utley swatted a two-run homer, and Jimmy Rollins chimed in with two RBIs.

Clayton Kershaw (3-1) held Philadelphia to two hits across six innings, striking out nine and walking three en route to a 2-0 blanking on Friday.

Puig (three hits) had an RBI, Carl Crawford (two hits) drove in a run and scored a run, Andre Ethier added two hits, and Dee Gordon (hit with a run) stole three bases.

Jon Niese (3-3) held the Blue Crew to four hits with three runs (one earned), striking out five and walking three as New York pulled out a 5-3 decision at Citi Field on Thursday.

The Dodgers were outhit, 13-5, but still downed the Mets, 4-3, on Wednesday behind Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-2), who fanned nine with one walk, allowing nine hits and two runs (earned) in six frames.

Puig (10th) and Gonzalez (12th) homered, and Hanley Ramirez had two RBIs and a run for the visitors, who led 3-0 in the top of the sixth.

Gonzalez and Puig contributed three hits apiece, while Crawford, Matt Kemp and Juan Uribe all added two hits in the Dodgers’ 9-4 rout on Tuesday as Beckett went five innings, yielding eight hits and four runs (earned) with two walks and six strikeouts.
