Blue Hitting Woes

If the Dodgers (30-28) reach the World Series, they’re going to have to hit better, but were mostly stifled as Pittsburgh took three of four games at the Stadium.

In last Sunday’s 5-3 loss, Zack Greinke (8-2) was charged with four earned runs and five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over six innings.

Justin Turner (homer and single) scored twice and drove in a pair, pinch-hitter Scott Van Slyke had a run batted in, and Yasiel Puig also garnered two hits.

On Saturday, the Dodgers beat the Pirates, 12-2, as Hanley Ramirez singled twice and slammed two homers with five RBIs and four runs.

Adrian Gonzalez (three hits) drove in a run and scored two runs, Matt Kemp (two hits) knocked in two and scored a run, while Drew Butera and Turner (two hits) each had two RBIs.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (6-2) was the beneficiary of this season’s biggest scoring outburst as he gave up two runs (earned), striking out four, walking none while scattering 10 hits in six innings.

Josh Beckett (3-2) lasted five innings in a 2-1 setback to the Pirates on Friday as Neil Walker and Ike Davis (homer) each drove in a run.

Gerrit Cole (5-3), a former UCLA star hurler and No. 1 overall pick, limited the Dodgers to six hits across six and one-third frames in a 6-3 win on Thursday as Russell Martin slapped a solo homer and Josh Harrison (two hits) scored a run and delivered two RBIs.

Homer Bailey (5-3) gave up five hits and two earned runs in seven innings as Cincinnati edged the host Dodgers, 3-2, on Wednesday as Brandon Phillips drove in a pair.

Greinke was sharp in the Dodgers’ 6-3 victory on Tuesday versus the Reds, fanning 11 with no walks, yielding eight hits and three runs (earned) in seven and two-third innings, while Andre Ethier launched a solo home run and added a three-run triple.

Ryu toiled seven and one-third innings including seven perfect against the Reds in Monday’s 4-3 decision as Carl Crawford (two hits) had two RBIs.
