“Mom’s Gone Mad: The PTA Variety Show” A Hilarious Romp through Friendships, Parental Ambition and “Friendly” competition
“Mom’s Gone Mad” written by Betsy True and Pamela Shafer Moser, is a cleverly crafted 90-minute musical comedy, performed with a cast of 4 actors portraying over a dozen kaleidoscopic characters, who are, in turn, touching, talented, talent-less, maddening, and wickedly self-involved. The hilarity unfolds at a PTA Variety Show fundraiser where grade-school parents perform and misbehave as the evening’s hostesses valiantly keep the show on track even as their own perfect suburban lives are unraveling backstage. This energetic comedy is full of laughs, chaos and the pathos of marriages, appearances, kids, and complications. It’s also an insightful look at the overly ambitious and dangerously political life of parent organizations at schools across America.
Directed and choreographed by Kay Cole whose credits include an impressive array of shows, including “Great Expectations”, “Cabaret”, “South Pacific” and “Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde,” to name a few, “Moms Gone Mad” stars Eric Bolton, Jerry Giles, Betsy True and Pamela Shafer; a talented cast of seasoned actors with national Broadway credits in theater, television and feature films. The original music is by Charles Geyer, director and composer whose extensive credits include the score for the Pulitizer Prize-winner Tony Kushner Adaptation of Brecht’s “The Good Person of Setzuan.”
