About Immaculate Heart
Immaculate Heart High School is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school for young women in grades six through twelve. Steeped in beloved school traditions, Immaculate Heart has a long and distinguished history, with more than 10,000 graduates.
Founded in 1906 by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the school remains true to its original mission: the intellectual, spiritual, moral, and social development of women. Its garden campus, conveniently located inLos AngelesnearGriffithPark, welcomes a student body of geographic, ethnic, and religious diversity. Virtually 100 percent of IH students matriculate to college, including some of the most prestigious universities in the country.
Immaculate Heart’s challenging academic curriculum includes 16 Advanced Placement courses, 12 honors classes, and 50 UC and Cal-State approved elective courses, all enhanced by the latest technology. Students can also take advantage of such enrichment programs as Marine Biology Exploration of Catalina Island, Close Up toWashington,D.C., and Pandas Abroad Summer Travel.
The school’s extra-curricular activities develop personal excellence and maximize each student’s unique potential. A competitive sports program fields teams in basketball, cross country, diving, equestrian, soccer, softball, swimming, track & field, and volleyball. Visual and performing arts offer an annual art show, choral performances, theatrical productions, a Comedy Sportz team, and a dance troupe. Students participate in community service and more than 30 clubs and activities, including a campus ministry leadership team that assists with class retreats and liturgies, a student newspaper, a Mock Trial team, and a speech and debate team.
