Studio LOL, a comedy school named after the popular text and email abbreviation that stands for “laughing out loud,” celebrated its opening in Studio City this week.
The new comedy school caters to youngsters and teens, ages 4 and up. Its focus is on improv, with a style similar to that of the TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway?
“Too many children are spending their after-school hours in front of TVs and computer screens. Improv classes are a perfect way for them to get off the couch, turn their brains on, and interact with peers,” explains Studio LOL Owner, Katherine Kraus. “Plus, it’s just plain fun.”
Kraus has been teaching comedy classes to kids since 2003. She studied at The NY Conservatory for Dramatic Arts and has performed and trained at comedy venues throughout the country, including The Hollywood Improv, The Groundlings, Upright Citizens Brigade, The Peoples’ Improv Theatre, and Chicago City Limits.
Kraus says that her Saturday Night Open House is a parent-favorite. Parents are able to drop off students in the evening and take the night out. The class is appropriately named “Joke’s On You, Kid.”
There are only three rules posted inside the school. “1. Be brave. 2. Work together. 3. Make Grandma happy.” The last rule refers to keeping the comedy clean and Grandma-friendly. Kraus’ reason for this rule? “It’s always funnier that way.”
Studio LOL is now enrolling for weekly classes and Comedy Summer Camp at www.StudioLOL.com.
