The Nine O’ Clock Players once again puts together its winning formula for delightful children’s theater with Peter and Wendy, a musical play by Carol Weiss. Based on the play Peter Pan by James M. Barrie, it tells the story of Peter Pan, a mischievous boy who can fly, and his adventures on Neverland with Wendy Darling and her brothers, the fairy Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys, the Indian princess Tiger Lily, and the pirate Captain Hook.
The winning formula includes engaged performers, wonderful music, fun dances, delightful costumes, colorful sets, and a child friendly approach in every detail. This includes the opportunity to meet the cast, get autographs and photos as well.
I had the distinct pleasure of accompanying a young child and her mother who were experiencing Nine O’Clock Players for the first time. They have become raving fans. It was the child’s first live theatrical experience and she delighted in it all toe tapping the whole way.
Highlights included a fun crocodile, a well handled and splashy demise of Captain Hook, a more contemporary Tiger Lilly, and a fun ensemble number in the second act that featured a lot of juicy flair. As we know from Peter Pan we never quite grow up — good news. Adults love the show just as much as the children.
The remaining 2 p.m. shows play on Saturdays Nov. 10, 17, and Dec. 1. Sundays shows play on Nov. 4, 11, and 18. Reserve tickets online or call the box office at (323) 469-1970 or visit nineoclockplayers.com.
