Further back than even the Palate recalls, the original Corky’s Restaurant at 5043 Van Nuys Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, which was re-named The Lamplighter for several decades. Now history has repeated itself and, after refurbishing, the spacious restaurant has been re-launched as Corky’s.
Whatever the motives, the results are positive. The premises have never looked so good and there’s a refreshing sense of pride in preparation and presentation. Prices are modest for really generous portions and such attractive surroundings with a broad range of seating choices.
Most entrees include soup or salad and one side priced from $8.95 to $11.95. I started with the superior chunk style potato soup followed by an excellent poached salmon platter with delicious, crisp steak fries and steamed broccoli, $14.99.
The endless sandwich list includes signature burgers, turkey, chicken, roast beef and a Philly cheese-steak, $10.49, or Greek steak gyros with a Greek salad, $10.89.
Corky’s Fitness Menu features an array of appetizing low-fat, low calorie dishes from $8.99. Beer and wines are available.
Breakfast is served anytime from $7.99 for a breakfast sandwich to $14.49 for NY Steak and eggs, including home fries, hash browns or a pancake. There are several styles of three egg omelettes at or under $10.29, as well as pancakes, French toast and waffle varieties.
There’s adjoining self parking. Welcome back Corky’s; it’s nice to meet you.
