Calling all commitmentphobes, attention deficit disorderlies, and comedy fans: this is the play for you. Director Bryan Rasmussen and Producer Jake O’Flaherty’s Summer Shorts is the perfect presentation for the folks who either lean more toward comedy clubs for entertainment or for those adverse to long-form theater — unable to sit in their seat without itching to leave immediately after arrival.

From a cast of talented actors and writers, featuring eight 10-minute original comedies all taking aim at different slices of life, Summer Shorts is guaranteed to get you laughing. From cheating chick-flick-watching best friends to an online date gone horribly … right? — this commitment-less play is entertaining from the get-go. And if a certain vignette doesn’t tickle your fancy, there’s no squirming necessary, the shorts move quickly onto the next one.

Stay on the lookout for Meredith Thomas — not like you’ll miss her. Featured in two second act plays “Doin’ Lunch” and “Spat,” Thomas not only has comedic range, she’s exciting to watch as well. Also double-billed on the show is playwright Daniel Guyton, rounding out the show with the hilarious “I’m Not Gay” and the well-timed “Spat.”

While Act II had more gut-busting from the audience, all of Summer Shorts will be a perfect evening for comedy lovers and theatergoers alike.

Summer Shorts runs Tuesday nights on July 9 and 16 at the Whitefire Theater located at 13500 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com or goldstar.com. Running time is 80 minutes with a 10 minute intermission.
